Proverbs 1:2-4 The Purpose of Proverbs

"to know wisdom and instruction,

to understand the words of insight

to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity;

to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth-"

Solomon's proverbs are wise sayings written to instruct the inexperienced young man on how to apply righteousness, justice, and equity to their lives. Through his writings, Solomon rightfully presents wisdom as something that cannot be separated from morality and morality as something that cannot be understood apart from God.

Modern society has let men down in terms of morality, purpose, and identity by trying to define these concepts within a cultural framework that excludes God. This has resulted in a generation of young men who are detached from the essential truths of life. Solomon addresses this problem by highlighting the importance of God in both understanding and knowledge. This is central to what he refers to as wisdom and is the foundational premise of his teachings.

Proverbs 1:5-6 The Exhortation of Proverbs

"Let the wise hear and increase and learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance, to understand a proverb and a saying, the words of the wise and their riddles."

A wise person is willing to listen and learn, recognizing the need for guidance. Solomon teaches that wisdom isn't just about intelligence; it comes from humbling oneself to God's will. Thus, proverbs encourage young men to submit themselves to the word of God in all things.

You will only grow as a man by embracing humility over pride and staying dedicated to learning and implementing God's teachings in all areas of life. It's a common misconception that God should be confined to religious activities, but Proverbs challenges this notion. Proverbs applies to all aspects of life, indicating that God is not solely the God of religion; he is the God of humanity.

Key Word: wisdom- The capacity to do the right thing, at the right time, for the right reason.
