Proverbs 1:8-9

"Hear, my son, your father's instruction, and forsake not your mother's teaching, for they are a graceful garland for your head and pendants for your neck." (ESV)

Parents' guidance and teachings are intended to benefit the children who learn from them. Together, a mother and father are expected to equip their children for success by instilling the belief that "the fear of God is the beginning of knowledge." By doing so, these teachings become a "graceful garland" and "pendants."

This notion has been overlooked by those who believe that children can raise themselves. It has been undermined by the belief that morality is subjective, allowing children to determine their future without parental guidance or input. Additional challenges arise when parents are unfamiliar with the Lord, making it impossible for them to guide their children toward righteous thinking, as they lack understanding of it.

Christians who recognize God as their Father never need to be concerned about getting poor guidance. Jesus enabled us to have a relationship with God that surpasses the one we have with our earthly parents. Therefore, even if you, like many young men, were raised in an environment where your parents were not aligned with biblical truth, you can turn to God as a parent who will always be there.
